WOLFDOGS - FEEDING RAW FOOD DIET TO MY DOGS

I am seriously considering feeding my wolfdogs a raw food diet. I have done a lot of research on this and it sounds like the best, healthiest and safest way to feed my dogs. I know we are going to go through a transition and I know all about the bacteria that lurks around on raw meat and such so I will be checking with my vet prior to taking off on this venture. I will also be taking great care when preparing their food to avoid any unnecessary stomach upset. I don’t know about you but, when my doggies don’t feel good, it saddens me. Poor things, they can’t really tell you how they feel but I do know my dogs well enough to recognize when something is not right in their world, or their belly, whichever the case may be.

The question that is being raised most often is “will this make my wolfdogs vicious?” I can safely say that this will not make them vicious. I researched that very carefully as well. The neighbors can be safe in the knowledge that my wolfdogs are not going to suddenly start scouting the neighborhood for their next kill; first off, they are very well contained. They are not going to look at the pit on the street behind us and wonder if, between them, they can take it down or drool over the little poodle next door and think it would make a yummy appetizer. I wish no harm to my neighborhood of pets or their owners for that matter and this will not be an issue.

My biggest concern is the transition period and the cost. I have always prided myself on doing whatever is necessary for my pets’ health and safety and even though this could wind up costing more, especially in the beginning, I think it will be much healthier for them in the long run and, I will keep looking for bargains.

Here are some links that answer a lot of the questions that are going through your mind right now. There is a great e-book about this. Please visit these sites for more info.

My sister switched her cats' diet to raw food long ago & they lived well past 20! Unfortunately, they're both dead now...the oldest one was 25 when he went to sleep & didn't wake up, the younger one was 22 & had a stroke so had to be put down. She did say they were friskier & looked a heck of a lot better after the change. Her local butcher had "animal cuts" that were less expensive.

Thanks for the info on the "animal cuts", and for letting me know about the cats, I have heard that the animals live longer and feel a lot better without all those fillers they get in packaged food. Thanks as always for the comments Grace, you keep me going.

So I finally made it back to your blog for an extended stay. I've enjoyed exploring. I've been transitioning to a raw food lifestyle myself, and am seriously considering doing the same for my Siberian Husky, Maya - although, I leave out the meat, bones and organs from my own raw diet. ;)

I have a couple of friends with wolfdogs and huskies who have begun feeding raw, and the change in these animals is remarkable. One eleven-year-old was very ill and looking like she was on death's door, but no more...since feeding raw, she is like a completely different dog. Put on weight, gorgeous thick coat, full of life, no longer incontinent. You could see a change in all of them within two weeks, which come to think of it, is when I started noticing big changes in myself after eating raw food.

I am so glad you came back earthmother and I appreciate your comment and info. Mom and I visited that raw food restaurant again, it was great. I feel so much better after I eat food prepared that way, I must work towards becoming a higher percentage, I know it would be better for me and my dogs. Thanks again for taking the time to come by and comment, hope you visit again.

Heya! I realize this is sort of off-topic but
I needed to ask. Does managing a well-established blog such as yours
take a massive amount work? I am completely new to operating a blog but I
do write in my diary every day. I'd like to start a blog so I can easily share my own experience and thoughts online. Please let me know if you have any kind of recommendations or tips for new aspiring blog owners. Thankyou!
